Canada Fund for Local Initiatives is a program funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and is managed by the Canadian Embassy in Amman. CFLI’s main objective is to enhance the economic, cultural and social life of people in eligible developing countries. Since its establishment in Jordan in 1986, CFLI- Jordan has supported hundreds of projects providing technical and financial development assistance to the people of Jordan.

CFLI Strategy for 2009-2012 will be focusing on Child Rights. Project funding for the fiscal year 2009 (April 2009 – March 2010) will focus on Protection as one of the four core categories of the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC). Accordingly, the main target group will be Children at Risk; this may include, but will not be limited to, children deprived of parental care, children who are affected by exploitation, neglected and\or abused children, child labour, street children, children in conflict with the law, children addicted to drugs and psychotropic substances, children with disabilities, refugee children and children with HIV\AIDS.

Project proposals presented to CFLI have to contribute to the promotion and respect of Child Rights; consideration will be given to proposals addressing one or more of the issues related to children at risk. The average amount for financial support per project is CDN $25,000, but consideration will be given to projects up to CDN $50,000.

Proponents and proposals have to be aligned with the above mentioned themes as well as the following criteria:
- Projects must be executed in a maximum period of nine months.
- Expected results must be clear and precise.
- Priority will be given to organizations that have not received CFLI support in the past.
- The majority of direct and indirect beneficiaries must be children.
- All applications for financial support must be presented by an institution or an association; personal applications are not accepted.
- Equipment and repairing work for children’s shelters that are already in operation, including shelters managed by public institutions, may be considered.
- NGOs, civil society organizations and institutions must be legally registered in Jordan.
- Projects should deliver equitable benefits to men and women, boys and girls. Moreover, and in line with CIDA policy on Gender Equality and CFLI focus on supporting women and girls in the realization of their full rights, consideration will be given to projects aiming at: 1) increased advocacy of girl’s rights, and\or 2) greater awareness by girls of their rights.

CFLI- Jordan invites interested local, officially registered non-governmental non-for profit organizations, to submit proposals for projects in line with the above mentioned themes and criteria. Applications should follow the standard Application Form and be sent to CFLI Coordinator by email at mdarwazah@psu-amman.org  or by mail to; Canada- Jordan Program Support Unit, Manja St. no.3B – Al Rabia Amman, no later than July 1, 2009.
It is anticipated that the screening process will continue till August 2009.Organizations and applications not meeting the requirements above will NOT be considered.
